President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged state governors to launch a massive food production initiative in response to escalating costs.
Speaking at the 142nd National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, he called for collaborative efforts to achieve food sufficiency, requesting a report within seven days.
Tinubu promised federal support, including mechanization of agriculture, high-quality seedlings, and solar-powered irrigation systems.
He emphasized the critical need for state coordination to produce high-quality food, create jobs, and generate wealth through exports.
Additionally, Tinubu approved the immediate rollout of the National Construction and Household Support Programme, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and providing economic relief.
Key infrastructure projects under this program include the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Trans-Saharan Highway.
The program also includes full financing for major railway projects and a one-off allocation of N10 billion for the procurement of buses and compressed natural gas (CNG) uplift.
Additional support includes N50,000 grants to families, provisions for labor unions and civil society organizations, and N155 billion for the purchase and distribution of foodstuff across the country.
