President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which reconvened today, Tuesday, June 25, after a six-week hiatus.
The last FEC meeting, which addressed numerous memoranda, spanned two consecutive days—Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14—discussing various critical state issues.
During that session, over 20 memoranda were considered and approved, including a new government initiative aimed at boosting economic growth through housing and infrastructure investments.
Today’s meeting is being attended by nearly all cabinet members, except Vice President Kashim Shettima and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. Present attendees include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Head of Service, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan.
Information Minister Mohammed Idris had previously stated on October 16, 2023, that FEC meetings would now occur on Mondays instead of the traditional Wednesdays and would only convene when there are memoranda to consider.
Today’s meeting takes place amid rising inflation, an unresolved national minimum wage issue, and other socio-economic challenges.
