In a hard-fought match, Mexico secured a 1-0 victory against Jamaica in Houston. However, their captain, Edson Alvarez, suffered an injury during the game.
The breakthrough came in the 69th minute when Gerardo Arteaga unleashed a superbly struck goal, earning Mexico three crucial points. Despite struggling to create opportunities in the first half, ‘El Tri’ rallied after Michail Antonio’s disallowed header for offside.
Luis Chavez and Julian Quinones pressed forward, testing Jamaica’s goalkeeper Jahmali Waite. Finally, Arteaga’s half-volley from the edge of the box found the far corner, sealing the win for Mexico.
Reflecting on the disallowed goal, Arteaga explained, “A goal, whether for or against, changes your mood a lot. And seeing that it had been disallowed, that also lifted us a little bit more to keep insisting and looking for the goal ourselves.”
Next up, Mexico faces Venezuela in Los Angeles, while Jamaica takes on Ecuador in Las Vegas.
