Nigerian broadcaster Arise Television has issued an apology for a video mix-up in its coverage of the Ojude Oba festival.
The festival, a major cultural event celebrated on the third day of Eid-El-Kabir, showcases the rich traditions, vibrant culture, and fashion of the Ijebu people, and has been a hot topic online.
This year’s festival went viral due to Farooq Oreagba’s grand entrance, featuring a striking ensemble with tattooed hands, a cigar, native regalia, and black sunglasses, making him the highlight of the event.
However, Arise TV mistakenly used clips from an Igbo cultural event to depict the Ojude Oba festival in one of its reports, sparking significant backlash online.
In response, the broadcaster issued an apology in a bulletin on Friday, June 21, 2024, acknowledging the error and reiterating its respect for all cultures. The station corrected the mistake by showing accurate clips from the Ojude Oba festival.
“So that’s the wonderful video. Obviously, Arise was trending yesterday at number one due to the video mix-up. Again, we apologise, it was a technical mix-up. We at Arise respect every culture and have always celebrated this beautiful festival,” the station stated.
