The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set Thursday, September 26th, as the date for its second National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of 2024.
The first NEC meeting, which took place on April 18th, left unresolved matters, including the position of the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum.
These issues were postponed to the upcoming NEC meeting, initially planned for August.
The North Central faction of the PDP has been vocal about electing a representative from their region to fulfill the remaining term of the former Chairman, Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu, who stepped down nearly halfway through his tenure.
In preparation for the September NEC, the party has organized ward/delegate congresses for July 27th. These congresses aim to select ward executives and three ad-hoc delegates across 23 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The states participating in these congresses include Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, Bauchi, FCT, Taraba, and Ebonyi, among others.
The revised schedule was part of the party’s 2024 timetable and activity plan for Congresses, announced this Monday.
Post-ward congress appeals are scheduled for review on August 2nd, 2024.
Subsequently, Local Government Congresses will take place on August 10th to elect LGA executives and national delegates in 21 states.
Any appeals from the Local Government Congresses are set to be heard on August 16th.
Finally, State Congresses will occur on August 31st in 18 states, including Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Kano, Rivers, FCT, Benue, Katsina, Ekiti, and Ebonyi.
Appeals from the State Congresses are slated for consideration on September 5th, 2024.
