Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will miss Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic due to injury.
The reigning CAF Footballer of the Year was initially included in the squad for the matches on June 7 and June 10 but has been sidelined for four weeks.
In response, Super Eagles’ Coach Finidi George has called up Enugu Rangers’ left-back Kenneth Igboke.
Osimhen’s absence is a significant setback for Nigeria, currently third in Group C of the African qualification series. Rwanda leads the group, with South Africa in second place, while Benin Republic is at the bottom.
Osimhen has not played for the Super Eagles since their second-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and missed recent friendlies against Ghana and Mali due to injury.
