The embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure, has been suspended from the membership of the party in Ward 3, Arue-Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspension, which took effect immediately, comes as a result of alleged high-handedness, fraud, and anti-party activities attributed to Abure.
The suspension was conveyed to Abure through a letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, and Ward Secretary, Stanley Usiomoh.
The letter, dated May 14, 2024, explicitly states that Abure should refrain from holding out or parading himself as a member of the Labour Party in Ward 3, Arue-Uromi, Esan North East LGA, Edo State¹.
The decision to suspend Abure was reached after rigorous deliberations by members of the ward, considering his alleged high-handedness and anti-party activities within the LP administration.
Additionally, Abure faces multiple allegations of fraud, which are currently under investigation.
The ratification of his suspension was endorsed by the executive of the Labour Party in Esan North East Local Government.
The ratification letter, signed by Patrick Onogbeni (Chairman) and Ehikioya Eromosele (Secretary), confirms the weightiness of the allegations against Abure and upholds the suspension¹.
The State Executive Council, led by Kelly Ogbaloi, endorsed the ward and local government committee’s decision to suspend Abure.
The party’s deputy chairman, Mr. Patrick Agbontaen, expressed agreement with the suspension, emphasizing that the LP had grown weary of the series of allegations against Abure.
The suspension remains in effect until further notice.
