In a significant ruling, the Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has affirmed the election of Hope Uzodimma as the Governor of Imo State.
The tribunal, which delivered its judgment in Abuja, dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its governorship candidate, Athan Achonu.
Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, leading a three-man panel, declared that Uzodimma’s election complied substantially with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Additionally, the tribunal found that the Labour Party failed to prove the allegations of overvoting and non-compliance with electoral regulations.
In 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Uzodimma, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the governor.
He secured 540,308 votes, emerging as the winner. Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 71,503 votes, while Achonu came third with 64,081 votes.
Despite the legal challenges, Uzodimma’s victory stands, reaffirming his position as the elected leader of Imo State.
