Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has disclosed that the refurbishment of the Abuja Light Rail, also known as the Abuja Metro Line, has incurred a cost exceeding N10 billion, equivalent to 15 million dollars.
Following an inspection on Monday, Minister Wike announced the readiness of the Light Rail for commercial service, expressing satisfaction with fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s mandate.
The inauguration of the metro line for public use is scheduled for May 27 by President Tinubu.
Minister Wike expressed gratitude for the support from President Tinubu, which was pivotal in completing the project within the promised timeframe, aligning with the “Renewed Hope” agenda.
While the project is set to launch, Minister Wike acknowledged minor oversights in the design phase, such as the lack of air conditioning in passenger waiting areas and elevators for accessibility.
He assured that these elements would be considered for future enhancements to ensure passenger comfort.
Additionally, the minister highlighted the construction of access roads connecting local communities to the train stations as a crucial component of the project’s success, facilitating easy transit for residents to the metro line.
