Olivier Giroud, the celebrated French striker, has made the official announcement that he will be parting ways with AC Milan when the current season concludes, setting the stage for his anticipated move to Major League Soccer.
Giroud, who holds the record as France’s leading goal scorer, is slated to join Los Angeles FC, uniting with Hugo Lloris, his compatriot and former national teammate, following a successful three-year stint with the Italian soccer heavyweights.
In a heartfelt statement released via the club’s social media, Giroud expressed, “My journey with Milan will culminate with the upcoming two matches, post which I will embark on a new chapter in MLS.”
Reflecting on his tenure with the club, he added, “The past three years have been a source of immense pride for me. Although my time at Milan is drawing to a close, the club will forever hold a special place in my heart.”
Giroud’s transfer to Milan from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 marked the beginning of a remarkable journey, crowned by securing the Serie A championship in his debut season with the club, renowned for its seven European titles.
The 37-year-old forward, who clinched the World Cup with France in 2018, boasts an impressive tally of 48 goals for Milan across all contests, including 16 in the current season as he gears up for Euro 2024 in Germany.
Giroud is set to bid an emotional adieu to the Milanese faithful at the iconic San Siro during their season finale against Salernitana, marking the end of an illustrious chapter with the team.
