The Joint Military Task Force, known as Operation Delta Safe, has reported the discovery of an extensive network of 50 illicit refineries hidden within the Biseni forests, situated in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Commander Rear Adm. John Okeke, who spearheaded the operation, revealed that these sites were actively engaged in the unauthorized refining of purloined crude oil.
The task force stumbled upon a substantial pit, with the capacity to hold at least 10 trucks filled with Alternative Gas Oil, commonly referred to as diesel.
This pit served as the central distribution point for the illegal refining operations scattered across the forest.
Rear Adm. Okeke recalled previous warnings issued by the task force against engaging in illicit oil activities within the region and reaffirmed their unwavering resolve to eradicate this illegal practice.
“We have continued to warn, we are not going to relent. We will not get tired, we will continue to work, we shall locate them wherever they are.
“Our team moved from Ahoada-West in Rivers to discover these 50 illegal refining sites in Biseni, Bayelsa,” he stated
The task force’s journey began in Ahoada-West, Rivers State, leading to the unearthing of the 50 clandestine refineries in Bayelsa.
The prevalence of oil theft and the unauthorized refining of crude oil have escalated into a major concern for the region, according to Okeke.
