Following a suspension by the Nigerian government, Dana Air has announced the layoff of a number of its employees.
The airline’s spokesperson, Kingsley Ezen, cited the ongoing audit by Nigerian regulatory authorities as the reason for this decision.
The airline has chosen to temporarily release some of its workforce until the audit’s completion. “In light of the ongoing audit, Dana Air has decided to temporarily disengage some staff members pending the conclusion of the audit,”
“The Management of Dana Air extends its sincere appreciation to all staff members for their resilience and dedication during this period of uncertainty. It recognises the difficulties that staff have had to endure and assures them that every effort is being made to resolve the situation promptly,” Ezenwa stated in a recent announcement.
This move comes in the wake of an incident on April 24, when a Dana Air flight from Abuja veered off the runway upon landing at Lagos airport, leading to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s suspension of the airline’s operating certificate just a day later.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has commented on the situation, indicating that the airline had been functioning under conditions that were not conducive to safety standards.
