The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe has declared its intention to abstain from the local government elections scheduled for 25th May 2024.
This announcement was made by the party’s State Organizing Secretary, Mohammed Sulayman, during a press conference in Damaturu.
The decision, he explained, came after careful deliberation and consultation.
“It is also a known fact in the history of our Dear State Yobe, that Local Government Council elections have never been free, fair, credible, and impartial under the state commission since inception.
“We wish to state that, it is not in any way whatsoever going to be different this time”, he claimed.
Furthermore, Sulayman criticized the State Independent Electoral Commission for not properly informing state political parties about the election timetable and condemned the exorbitant fees for candidacy forms as a strategic move to exclude opposition parties from the electoral process.
“The outrageous cost enforced for the purchase of forms is calculated and deliberate to disfranchise the other political parties from participating in the election”, he alleged.
It is to be noted that the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed the 25th of May, 2024, for the local government council elections.
