In a bid to enhance security within Lagos, the state government has sustained its operations, following the apprehension of individuals beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge.
Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, disclosed that over the weekend, 450 individuals were taken into custody.
“Of the lot, 371 pleaded for assistance to relocate to their states due to the hardship they are facing in Lagos; 79 have been absorbed into some government facilities for rehabilitation after showing signs of being unwell.
“The exercise will continue as part of the government’s responsibility to keep our citizens safe and secure,” he said.
Omotoso affirmed the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens, indicating that such operations will persist.
Starting today, the government is set to dismantle more than 100 makeshift structures located under the Adeniji Adele Bridge.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, stated that this action follows the expiration of a 48-hour eviction notice issued to the inhabitants.
Wahab revealed that the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI/LAGESC) brigade, alongside the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) Department personnel, will be supported by security forces during this initiative.
He stressed that the removal of these shanties is a strategic move to recover unregulated areas within the city and to align with the vision of Lagos as a modern metropolis, while also addressing the issue of these structures being potential hideouts for unlawful activities.
