The political landscape in Ebonyi State has witnessed a significant shift as several key figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have crossed over to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This move includes notable personalities such as the former representative for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency and one-time gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga, along with the former Senator and previous National Working Committee member of the PDP, Sylvanus Nguji Ngele, among other executive members.
The formal ceremony marking this transition was held at the headquarters of Abakaliki Local Government Area in Nkaliki last Saturday.
During the ceremony, both Hon. Ogbaga and Senator Ngele expressed their dissatisfaction with the PDP’s failure to nominate a governor from the Izzi clan, a feat the APC has accomplished, aligning with Ebonyi State’s charter of equity.
They cited the current administration under Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, which operates on the people’s charter of needs, as their primary motivation for aligning with the APC to further the cause of democracy in the state.
The new APC members were warmly welcomed by a host of dignitaries, including APC National Treasurer Chief Matthew Uguru, State Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, Executive Chairman of Abakaliki L.G.A Hon. Stephen Nwogba, and other prominent figures.
The leaders praised the defectors for their courageous decision and urged them to formalize their membership at their local wards.
Additionally, other high-ranking PDP members from Abakaliki LGA, such as the representative for Abakaliki North in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Victor Nwoke, were officially received into the APC fold during a recent event graced by the governor’s wife, Mrs. Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru.
