Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has issued a call to the former state administration, led by Okezie Ikpeazu, to prepare for the restitution of misappropriated funds, including those allocated for an airport project.
Responding to a forensic audit report of the state’s finances, Governor Otti clarified that his administration’s intent is not to engage in conflict but to reclaim stolen funds to promote effective governance.
Addressing the public in Nvosi, during a visit from the supporters of Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency’s representative, Rowland Chinwendu, Governor Otti underscored his commitment to the advancement and development of Abia State.
He insisted on the reimbursement of the airport project funds, given the project’s non-execution.
Governor Otti also voiced his frustration over the negative media response following his disclosure of the forensic audit’s outcomes.
He welcomed the solidarity visit from Representative Chinwendu and his followers, interpreting it as a positive sign.
“I established a forensic audit of our accounts as soon as I was sworn in and the report turns out that a lot of money was looted, stolen brazenly and part of the ones I mentioned was the N10 billion Abia Airport Project.
“They started insulting me. If you follow what is happening in the media, you would know that what I said is true.
“We are looking for our money. If we are not able to find the airport, they would have to refund us our money.
“We are not pursuing anybody, they should refund the money they stole, let’s use it to work for our people.
“Our place must develop. We will continue to build roads, we will continue to clean up the environment, we will continue to create jobs.” he affirmed.
Representative Chinwendu, in his remarks, acknowledged his constituents’ mandate to serve their interests in the legislature and recognized the importance of aligning with Governor Otti, who hails from the same local government area. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts, including the reconstruction of the Umuikaa-Umuene road and other initiatives within his constituency
