The Nigerian gospel music scene is in mourning following the death of renowned singer Morenikeji Adeleke, popularly known as Egbin Orun.
Her passing was confirmed by fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele, who paid tribute to Morenikeji on social media.
“I got home from my program to hear about this great loss. Prophetess Morenikeji Egbin Orun you left without saying goodbye. We spoke together last week not knowing you are about to embark on a journey to the great beyond,” she wrote.
“You are such a beautiful and kind hearted woman and a very good supporter of my ministry. I am deeply saddened with your demise but God knows best. You will be greatly missed and your good deeds will continue to linger in our hearts. Ah Egbin Orun. Good night! Keep resting in the bosom of Christ.”
Praising Morenikeji’s supportive nature and her impact on the gospel community, Igbekele expressed her sorrow but took solace in the belief that Morenikeji’s legacy would endure.
In a subsequent post featuring a video of Morenikeji, Igbekele remarked, “You will be greatly missed Morenikeji Egbin Orun. May your soul find eternal rest. We love you but God loves you more. Heaven has just gained an Angel. Happy you always,”
At present, the cause of Morenikeji’s death has not been disclosed, and her family has yet to make a formal announcement.
Morenikeji was the visionary behind the Egbin Orun Prayer Mountain and was celebrated for her distinctive renditions in the Yoruba language.
