Prince Harry and his spouse, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, are scheduled to make a trip to Nigeria in the upcoming month of May.
The announcement came from Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, on Monday.
The royal couple’s visit will include engagements with military personnel and a series of cultural events.
The Invictus Games, an international sports event founded by Prince Harry, serves as a rehabilitation platform for wounded, injured, or sick military personnel worldwide.
It also aims to increase societal recognition and support for these soldiers.
With around 500 competitors from 21 countries, including Nigeria, which secured gold and bronze medals in its debut last year, the Games have become a significant event.
The statement said in part, “The visit is to consolidate Nigeria’s stronghold at the game, and the possibility of hosting the event in later years,”
This initiative is supported by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, who has expressed willingness to host the Games in Nigeria following his attendance at the previous year’s event in Germany.
