A devastating explosion from a gas tanker on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, specifically at Ita-Oshin in Abeokuta, has led to the death of one individual and injuries to two others.
The incident, which took place at approximately 4:10 pm, was confirmed by Mrs. Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command.
The explosion involved six people, tragically claiming the life of the motor boy, while two others received immediate medical attention for their injuries.
“A total of five vehicles were involved, including two Nissan cars with registration numbers AAN 544 YC, LSD 993 CY, a Sino tanker marked T23771 LA, a Micra marked GDB 841 XR and a Honda CRV without registration number,” she said
The cause of the explosion was identified as a brake failure on the tanker, leading to a loss of control, collision with a road barricade, and subsequent ignition.
The impact of the explosion extended to nearby vehicles and shops, causing further destruction.
Emergency services were promptly alerted, and the area was secured to prevent any additional accidents.
