The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finalized preparations for its primary election, slated to determine its candidate for the November 16, 2024 governorship election.
Scheduled to take place at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, the state capital, the primary will involve 627 delegates representing the 18 local government areas of the state, tasked with selecting the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming gubernatorial contest.
A statement released by Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, the state publicity secretary of the party, revealed that a Seven-man Primary Election Committee, led by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, will oversee the process.
Following clearance by the Senator Sam Egwu Screening Committee, seven aspirants have been approved to participate in the primary election.
Notable among them are former deputy governor of the state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi; former Commissioner for Environment, Chief Sola Ebiseni; Otunba Bamidele Akingboye; former Commissioner of Information in the state, John Ola-Mafo; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Kolade Akinjo; Bosun Arebuwa; and Engr. Adeolu Akinwumi.
Peretei disclosed that delegate accreditation will commence at 10:00 am as directed by the committee, followed by the election process.
However, Peretei cautioned against unauthorized individuals entering the venue, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a reasonable distance from the arena.
The PDP primary comes on the heels of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election held last Saturday, which saw Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa emerge as the winner.
