Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been suspended by the executive members of his local ward, Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Kano State.
The suspension was announced by Haruna Gwanjo, the head of the Ganduje Ward Executive Council, during a media briefing in Kano on Monday.
Gwanjo stated that the suspension is pending Ganduje’s clearance of corruption charges linked to a notorious dollar bribery case.
The case in question involves a widely circulated 2017 video that showed Ganduje allegedly accepting wads of dollars from a purported contractor.
Despite Ganduje’s denial and claims of innocence, the current NNPP government under Governor Abba Yusuf has decided to reopen the case and pursue legal action against the former governor.
Ganduje is scheduled to be arraigned by the Kano High Court on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, facing charges related to bribery, fund diversion, and misappropriation, including alleged acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribes.
Kano State’s Attorney General, Haruna Dederi, has indicated that Ganduje, along with his wife and six others, will be brought before the court.
The prosecution, led by Governor Yusuf’s administration, is prepared to bring 15 witnesses before Justice Usman Na’aba at the State High Court to support their case.
