Ikeja Electric has bolstered its power distribution network by integrating 34 new Band A feeders, aiming to enhance the electricity supply for its consumers.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) conducted a thorough assessment of the power supply capabilities, which led to this advancement.
In a recent social media update, the company expressed, “Based on our consistent delivery of at least 20 hours of power daily and following a regulatory review period, we’re excited to confirm the addition of 34 Band A feeders to our network.”
The expansion includes areas under the 32KV and 133KV Band A locations, such as Ikorodu, Magodo, Maryland, Ilupeju, and Ejigbo.
In response to the recent increase in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, who are guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours of power supply daily, NERC has directed distribution companies to adhere to this standard.
Should there be a failure to meet the supply commitment, the reasons must be disclosed publicly the following day.
Additionally, NERC has instructed distribution companies to create an online portal for customers to verify their location and feeder band, ensuring accurate billing.
Earlier this month, the Federal Government raised the electricity tariff from approximately N68/KWh to N225/KWh.
This adjustment aims to attract investments to the power sector and alleviate the financial burden of electricity subsidies.
Consequently, the tariff hike implies that a greater number of customers in Band A locations will contribute to increased revenue for the distribution company at the new rate of N225/KWh.
