Oba Owolabi Olakulehin has been selected to ascend as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The nomination took place on Friday, April 12, during the Olubadan-in-council meeting at the Olubadan Palace in Oja’ba, Ibadan, presided over by Osi Balogun, Oba Lateef Adebimpe.
The council meeting saw the presence of key figures such as the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja; Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole; Ashipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Ekarun Olubadan, Oba Adebayo Akande; Ashipa Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola; Ekerin Balogun, Oba Dada Isioye; and Ekarun Balogun, Oba Abiodun Azeez.
The throne was vacated after the demise of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who passed away at the age of 81 at the University College Hospital (UCH).
Post-meeting, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja briefed the press, indicating that the appointment awaits the governor’s approval. A formal request will be dispatched to the governor by the local government, with the anticipation of prompt consent.
Once the governor’s approval is received, the coronation date will be set.
This follows a dispute regarding the health of Oba Olakulehin, with some suggesting that the position should remain vacant until he is deemed fit.
However, Ladoja has dismissed these concerns, affirming that Oba Olakulehin’s age should not be a barrier to his capabilities.
