Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has announced the tragic passing of esteemed Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, widely known as Junior Pope.
The actor, along with three colleagues, met with a fatal accident upon returning from a film shoot when their boat capsized in Anambra’s Anam River.
Rollas expressed his grief on Instagram, sharing that initial hope turned to sorrow despite medical efforts to save the actor.
“It is so so sad that our joy was shortlived.
“My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers. Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail.
“God knows the best. We finally lost him,” he said.

With a career spanning over 150 films, including titles like “Mad Sex,” “Bitter Generation,” and “Vengeance of Bullet,” Pope became a household name for his portrayal of intense characters.
His talent was recognized with the Nollywood Most Promising Actor award in 2010 and other accolades such as Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
