Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former presidential aspirant, has passed away.
Onu, renowned for being Abia State’s inaugural civilian governor, passed in Abuja on Thursday.
While the full circumstances of his passing are yet to be disclosed, it is known that Dr. Onu had been contending with a health issue that had not been made public.
His most notable recent public engagement was at the APC primary election in 2022, where he voiced concerns over perceived injustices to the Southeast region.
Dr. Onu was appointed as the Minister of Science and Technology by former president Muhammadu Buhari in November 2015, a role he served in until his resignation on May 6, 2022, to pursue the APC’s presidential nomination, a contest eventually won by President Bola Tinubu..
