Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has announced that the federal government will impose penalties on distribution companies (DisCos) that do not provide at least 20 hours of electricity daily to Band A customers.
This directive aligns with the revised tariff system that targets Band A consumers, who are now subject to increased rates from N66/kWh to N225/kWh as per the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) recent update.
The Minister’s statement, shared via his official X account, emphasizes the government’s commitment to ensuring DisCos meet the service expectations for Band A customers.
Additionally, Adelabu revealed progress in the presidential power initiative, with half of the power transformers installed and plans underway to deploy seven new mobile substations before upgrading the transmission network for enhanced capacity.
“Next phase involves upgrading capacity of the transmission network. It will involve upgrading existing transmission substations, upgrading transformers, and the reconducting and installation of transmission lines,” he added.
