In a benevolent gesture coinciding with the festive spirit of Eid-il-Fitr, Governor Umaru Dikko Radda of Katsina State has facilitated the release of 222 prisoners from several correctional facilities across the state.
This act of mercy was achieved by the settlement of the inmates’ fines, as confirmed by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, on Tuesday in Katsina.
The governor’s decision is rooted in compassion, aiming to spread joy among the inmates during the sacred month of Ramadan and allowing them to reunite with their families for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The beneficiaries of this clemency are individuals who were incarcerated due to their financial inability to pay court-imposed fines.
The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Katsina State, Hajiya Fadila Muhammad Dikko, endorsed the governor’s initiative, highlighting its significant impact on reducing overcrowding in the state’s custodial centers.
