Post extensive five-month renovations, the Third Mainland Bridge has been reopened with a new speed limit of 80 km/hr, as announced by the Federal Government.
In a TVC News interview, Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, outlined the new safety measures, including the strategic placement of speed limit signs and the future installation of speed cameras by the Lagos State Government to ensure adherence.
Kesha stated, “To safeguard lives, we’ve set the bridge’s speed limit at 80 km/hr. Speed cameras will soon be in place to monitor and penalize any instances of speeding.”
She also mentioned that violators caught speeding would face significant fines during their driving license renewal, a measure to discourage repeated offenses.
Additionally, Kesha revealed that security personnel are now stationed on the bridge to enforce these new regulations and prevent misuse.
Corroborating Kesha’s statements, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, during the bridge’s reopening, confirmed the 80 km/hr speed limit and the government’s commitment to implementing speed cameras to catch speed limit violators.
“You’ll see speed limit signs as from today. And then the speed cameras would come on.
“The speed limit for Third Mainland Bridge is 80km/hr.
“The speed cameras are there. So, if you go beyond the speed limit, the camera would take a picture of your car and plate number,” the Commissioner said.
