The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a mandate for the expedited completion of the Abiola–Onijemo Link Road and Bridge.
The directive calls for the project to be finalized by June 2024, as part of the administration’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and providing a solution to the city’s chronic traffic congestion.
During a recent inspection, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Infrastructure, highlighted the project’s alignment with the THEMES Plus Agenda, emphasizing its strategic importance in connecting Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojodu Local Government Areas.
“To further consolidate the transportation pillar of the THEMES+Agenda, the Abiola/Onijemo Road with Bridge project was embarked upon 18 months ago.
“It links Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area and Ojodu Local Government Area of the state and when completed would serve as an effective by-pass to heavy traffic gridlocks and reduce travel time.”
The completion of this project is anticipated to significantly alleviate traffic bottlenecks and shorten commute times.
Engr. Daramola also pointed out the broader community benefits, including job creation and environmental improvements, which are expected to stimulate socio-economic growth in the region.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work, which is currently at 75% completion, including the drainage system and the bridge’s concrete casting.
The project, once completed, promises to enhance the road network’s interconnectivity and support the Governor’s vision for a more accessible and efficient Lagos.
