Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has acknowledged a strained relationship with his predecessor, Peter Odili, attributing it to political disagreements.
Despite their past connection, where Wike regarded Odili as a mentor, he confirmed that they no longer collaborate politically.
Wike, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023 before his ministerial appointment by President Bola Tinubu, refrained from detailing the specific issues causing the rift.
However, it is speculated that the tension may be related to the challenges faced by the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Additionally, Wike expressed disapproval of certain Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, labeling them as politically irrelevant for their support of Fubara.
He specifically mentioned Abiye Sekibo, Uche Secondus, Celestine Omehia, and Austin Opara, dismissing their status as elder statesmen and asserting that Secondus’s suspension from the PDP has been legally upheld.
Wike’s comments reflect ongoing political dynamics within the PDP and Rivers State.
