Travellers across Nigeria are contending with a notable uptick in transportation expenses, particularly for long-haul trips over the Easter holiday period.
Compared to rates in February, travel costs have surged by up to 30% for business-class executive buses and 19% for smart coaches, often referred to as mini-luxury buses.
Based on data sourced from the official platform of GUO Transport Company, bus fares from Lagos to Owerri or Aba now hover between N38,000 and N39,000 for business executive class rides.
Smart coach tickets are priced at N25,000, while Sienna buses command up to N48,000 per ticket.
Similarly, passengers opting for Libra Motors may face costs of up to N39,000 and N40,000 for trips from Lagos to Owerri or Aba respectively.
Notably, journeys from Lagos to Abuja during Easter carry a premium, with prices soaring to as high as N45,000 per seat.
The surge in transportation expenses extends beyond road travel, impacting airfares as well. For example, Dana Airline now charges between N117,000 and N158,000 for flights from Lagos to Owerri, while flights from Abuja to Owerri range between N153,000 and N158,000.
