The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with its partners, has finalized arrangements to implement a truck call-up system along the Lekki-Epe corridor, aimed at alleviating the growing traffic congestion in the Lekki port area.
During a stakeholders’ meeting convened at the Lekki Free Zone Development, Seun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transport in Lagos State, emphasized the urgency of addressing the traffic challenges caused by the indiscriminate parking of container trucks and tankers along the roadways.
Osiyemi highlighted the government’s contemplation of utilizing waterways to transport bulk, dry, and liquid cargo from the port, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Bolatito Ajibode, the Deputy Managing Director of Lekki Free Zone Development Company, underscored the significance of the zone as a prime investment location, with ample land spanning over 3,000 hectares available for development.
Tim Koleolu, the Managing Director of Call Up Technology, outlined plans to integrate terminal operators with truck parks into the call-up system, streamlining administration and enhancing traffic management efficiency.
Hardware installations have been completed at key locations including the Lekki Deep Seaport and approved parks ready for operation.
The meeting convened key stakeholders including representatives from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Lagos State Government, Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Lekki Deep Seaport, Pinnacle Oil and Gas, and Dangote Refinery, among others, to strategize collaborative efforts in addressing the traffic congestion challenges in the Lekki port vicinity.
