The Kaduna State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken disciplinary action against its Women’s Leader, Haj.
Maryam Mai-Rusau, for her defense of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai amidst criticism regarding the state’s significant debt. Governor Uba Sani recently expressed concern over the substantial debt inherited from the previous administration.
At a town hall meeting, Governor Sani highlighted that his administration inherited a debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the El-Rufai era.
However, Mai-Rusau, in a passionate response, accused Governor Sani of disloyalty, citing El-Rufai’s support for Sani’s political career.
Mai-Rusau’s remarks sparked controversy within the party, leading to her suspension by the APC Kaduna State chapter.
In a letter signed by the state chairman and secretary, Ali Maishago and Zakka Bassahuwa respectively, Mai-Rusau was suspended for defaming Governor Sani and engaging in unauthorized public dispute that tarnished his reputation.
The letter cited violations of the party’s constitution, specifically article 21.2 (v), and announced Mai-Rusau’s suspension pending further investigation.
