“Muniru Opeyemi, the association’s National President, voiced the demand during a student-led demonstration at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment in Abuja, advocating for accountability and justice.”
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has urged the Nigerian government to probe the administration and Board of Trustees of the Cement Technology Institute of Nigeria (CTIN) regarding the purported misappropriation of N20 billion intervention funds earmarked for student training and CTIN’s advancement.
Muniru Opeyemi, the association’s National President, led a demonstration of students to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment in Abuja, demanding transparency and justice.
NAPS formally submitted a petition to both the anti-graft agency and the ministry, seeking an inquiry into the matter.
“We insist on transparency and accountability. We call for an immediate investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of CTIN’s leadership to uncover the specifics of the utilization of the over N20 billion (approximately $100 million) collected as levies on imported cement for technical training purposes over a decade ago when Nigeria depended on imported cement,” stated Opeyemi.
He emphasized that diverting intervention funds intended for cement technology advancement was against the country’s interests.Meanwhile, the EFCC has pledged to thoroughly investigate the allegations.
