The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially refuted allegations of a decrease in the pump prices for petrol and diesel.
Spokesperson Olufemi Soneye stated that such claims are unfounded and should be ignored by the public.
Contrary to social media posts claiming a reduction in petrol prices to below N600 and diesel to below N900, the NNPCL has confirmed that no such price adjustments have been made at their retail stations across the nation.
The company has reiterated its dedication to maintaining an adequate supply of petroleum products throughout its retail outlets and has encouraged the public to dismiss the false reports.
The NNPC Limited wishes to clarify rumours suggesting a price adjustment for Premium Motor Spirit and Automotive Gas Oil at its retail stations nationwide.
“The company asserts that these reports are false and urges Nigerians to disregard them entirely.
“NNPC Ltd reaffirms its commitment to sustaining the current sufficiency in petroleum products supply across all its retail stations in the country.”
This clarification comes in the wake of significant price hikes for petrol, which soared past N600 following the discontinuation of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023, a stark increase from the approximate N200 price point during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
