Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan has taken legal action against National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging a violation of his fundamental rights.
Gambaryan, represented by lawyer Olujoke Aliyu from Aluko and Oyebode Law Firm, filed the motion on March 18 seeking relief before Justice Inyang Ekwo.
Additionally, Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s Africa regional manager, who escaped custody, also filed a separate suit. Both suits, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/356/24 and FHC/ABJ/CS/355/24, name the Office of NSA (ONSA) and EFCC as respondents.
The executives sought similar relief, including a declaration that their detention and passport seizure violated constitutional rights. Gambaryan argued that his detention lacked basis, as he was not informed of any offense committed.
Despite respondents being served, they were not represented in court. Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter to April 8 for further proceedings, as legal representation for the applicants was withdrawn and respondents were given time to respond.
