In a recent development, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has submitted a list of nominees for commissioner positions to the State House of Assembly, seeking confirmation.
Notably, the list includes Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the son of former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
During a legislative session on Tuesday, Speaker Jibril Falgore announced the receipt of the governor’s nominations, highlighting the urgency of their approval for the Executive Council.
In his communication with the legislature, Governor Yusuf called for the appointment of four new commissioners, stating the importance of their roles in the Executive Council.
The list also features Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, a former commissioner; Abduljabbar Garko, and Shehu Aliyu Karaye.
The nomination of Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso has prompted discussions among political analysts, suggesting it may be a tactical move by Governor Yusuf to align with the New Nigerian People’s Party’s influential figure.
This nomination announcement follows Governor Yusuf’s directive for current commissioners to undergo a performance review, a measure intended to evaluate and decide the future composition of the executive council.
The State House of Assembly is set to consider the governor’s proposal shortly, signaling a potential shift in Kano’s political dynamics.
