The Ekiti Patriotic Consultative Forum (EPCF) Calls for Public Apology from Former Governor Fayemi. The Ekiti Patriotic Consultative Forum (EPCF) has demanded that former governor, Kayode Fayemi, issue a public apology following his recent remarks about legal luminary, Afe Babalola, SAN.
In a press statement released by Oluwagbenga Babawibe, Secretary of the Ekiti Patriotic Consultative Forum, Fayemi was criticized for failing to acknowledge Babalola’s significant contributions to the state’s development.
Fayemi’s comments came in response to Babalola’s remarks regarding the performance of past chief executives of the state. Fayemi stated, “Babalola has been relentless in his attack.
But I’m sorry, I won’t allow him to control the narrative about my time in office. It is important for people to know this is malicious, and not a dispassionate and objective assessment.
The only thing I brought to public service is my name and I won’t let people take my silence as consent as far as his opinion is concerned.
“The EPCF found Fayemi’s words offensive and insisted that he personally seek forgiveness, accompanied by respected traditional rulers from the state.
The group condemned Fayemi for using derogatory language against Chief Afe Babalola, describing it as sacrilege. They highlighted Babalola’s ongoing contributions to Nigeria’s development at the age of 94, including his dedication to education and industrialization.
Additionally, the EPCF emphasized Babalola’s role in establishing Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, tracing the university’s origins back to Babalola’s vision in 2009.
They noted his commitment to community development, citing an instance where the Layipo community in Ibadan requested his assistance in establishing a university after he helped build a public library for them.
