“Reporters observed a viral video of the damaged road on Tuesday morning, shared by Onyebuchi Nwafor on Facebook. The footage below depicts the asphalt coating peeled away, with scattered debris and sections submerged in water.”
An afternoon downpour has reportedly eroded the newly constructed Ochanja market road, completed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration just one week ago.
Ochanja market, situated in the Onitsha South local government area of the state, bore witness to this unfortunate event.
News Direct came across a viral video of the damaged road on Tuesday morning, shared by Onyebuchi Nwafor on Facebook. The footage reveals the asphalt coatings displaced, with fragments scattered and certain areas submerged in water.
A voice in the video expressed concern over the substandard work executed by the administration, despite significant taxpayer funding for the projects.
Accompanying the video, a post stated:
“Wonders they say shall never cease, but unfortunately, they have.
“Professor Chukwuma Soludo’s one-week-old road vanished in a split second.
“The ‘Dubai-Taiwan’ Ochanja market road in Onitsha, constructed with billions of Anambra taxpayers’ money, succumbed to just twenty minutes of rainfall on Monday, March 25, 2024.
“This incident highlights the poor quality of work carried out by the government.
“Only a few weeks prior, at the same Ochanja Market, a multi-story building under construction by the same government collapsed, resulting in the loss of an unknown number of lives.
“As the rainy season progresses, further inadequately executed constructions by the Anambra State Government may be exposed for all to see.”
