Renowned Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor has passed away at the age of 62 after battling a long-term illness.
The news was shared by social commentator Morris Monye on social media this past Sunday.
Muonagor had been dealing with kidney failure and was undergoing dialysis treatment. His death comes shortly after he appeared in a widely circulated video appealing for financial assistance for a kidney transplant.
Monye expressed his sorrow, stating, “Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing.
“He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful.
“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India.
“This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”
Born on August 20, 1962, in Idemili, Anambra, Muonagor was not only an accomplished actor but also a producer.
His work was recognized in 2016 when he received a nomination for the AMVCA 2017 Best Actor in a comedy category.
Muonagor’s career began in journalism with the News Agency of Nigeria after completing his national service in 1989.
He later transitioned to acting, making his debut in the film “Taboo 1” as Akunatakasi, which marked the start of his illustrious journey in the Nigerian film industry.
