Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), recently voiced remorse over his support for Siminalayi Fubara’s governorship bid in the oil-rich state.
Addressing supporters in Port Harcourt, Wike accused Fubara of deceit and pretense, alleging that he had been misled into backing Fubara’s candidacy.
The rift between Wike and his successor, Governor Fubara, has been ongoing for months with little sign of reconciliation. Wike’s frustration was palpable as he criticized Fubara’s actions, particularly his stance on the independence of the State Assembly members.
During his speech, Wike vehemently asserted, “We’ll never be intimidated… Let nobody be afraid.” He expressed disbelief at the ongoing legal battles initiated by Fubara’s camp, insinuating corruption in the judiciary.
Wike’s remarks underscored his disillusionment and dissatisfaction with Fubara’s leadership, hinting at deeper political tensions within the state.
