In a surprising turn of events, Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Binance executive detained in Nigeria on tax evasion charges, has escaped custody.
The incident occurred after Anjarwalla was allowed to attend mosque prayers during Ramadan.
The escape took place from an Abuja guest house, where Anjarwalla, holding dual Kenyan citizenship, was detained alongside a colleague.
Reports suggest he may have left Nigeria aboard a Middle Eastern airline using a Kenyan passport, raising questions about his acquisition of the passport since he was only known to possess a British one at the time of arrest.
Anjarwalla reportedly enjoyed certain liberties at the guest house, such as phone access, which may have facilitated his escape plans.
The National Security Adviser’s office has been made aware of the situation and is expected to provide further details.
