The Dangote Foundation has commenced the distribution of 120,000 bags of 10kg rice to impoverished individuals in Kano State as part of a nationwide initiative.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the foundation, announced that the goal is to distribute one million bags of rice across the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
This philanthropic act is rooted in compassion and a sense of duty, aligning with the foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility to mitigate hardship.
Kano State’s significant allocation reflects its demographic size and the widespread poverty among its populace.
The foundation’s efforts coincide with a daily feeding program for 10,000 people and the provision of evening meals during Ramadan in Kano.
Additionally, the distribution of family-sized loaves of bread in Kano and Lagos, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic, continues in tandem with the rice distribution.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State acknowledged the impact this aid will have during Ramadan and expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support.
He emphasized the importance of equitable distribution by the Hisbah committee members and called upon other affluent Nigerians to follow Dangote’s example in aiding the less fortunate.
