Nigerian business magnate and industrialist, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has earmarked N15 billion for food provisions targeting vulnerable populations across the 774 local government areas nationwide.
The launch of this initiative, which took place simultaneously in Kano and Lagos States on Saturday, is seen as a swift response to the prevailing economic adversities in the country.
Under the auspices of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, 120,000 bags of rice were distributed to aid approximately one million disadvantaged individuals spanning all 44 local government areas in Kano State alone.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Government House in Kano, Dangote revealed that the company’s expenditure on food supplies across the 774 local government areas amounted to N15 billion.
He further declared, “We are here in Kano to kick-start the distribution of over one million 10kg bags of rice, aiming to reach over one million of the most vulnerable persons spread across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, at a total cost exceeding N15 billion.
“The bulk allocation will be channeled to Kano State due to its significant population and prevailing poverty levels.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to addressing the prevailing economic challenges confronting our nation, underscoring our dedication to supporting our communities in alignment with our core values.
“Commencing with Kano State and Lagos State today underscores the urgency in providing immediate relief to those in dire need.
“Our objective is to extend this humanitarian effort to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring that a maximum number of our fellow Nigerians benefit from our assistance.”
