President Bola Tinubu has forwarded an executive bill to the Senate requesting a review of the salaries, allowances, and official benefits of judicial officers.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the president’s letter during Wednesday’s plenary session.The executive bill is titled “Judicial Office Holders, Salaries and Allowances, etc, Bill 2024.
“In the letter, President Tinubu stated that the bill, once approved, would establish a new legal framework for the remuneration of judicial officers, aiming to enhance their welfare and promote the capacity and independence of Nigeria’s judiciary system.
Tinubu highlighted, “The Judicial Office Holders, Salaries and Allowances, etc, Bill 2024 seeks to prescribe salaries, allowances, and benefits for judicial officers to address the long-standing stagnation in their remuneration and to align with current socioeconomic realities.
“He further expressed hope for the Senate’s careful and expeditious consideration and passage of the bill to enhance the welfare and independence of judicial officers.
