On the 20th of March, the House of Representatives ratified a bill setting forth the remuneration structure for judicial officers across Nigeria. The Chief Justice of Nigeria is set to receive a comprehensive monthly remuneration of ₦5,385,047.26.
The bill, presented by the President just a day prior, stipulates that Supreme Court Justices will receive ₦4,213,192.54, while the President of the Court of Appeal will have a monthly total of ₦4,478,415.78.
Additionally, the Court of Appeal Justices are slated to earn ₦3,726,665.40 monthly.
The Chief Judges of the Federal High Court, National Industrial Court, FCT High Court, along with the Grand Khadi of the FCT Sharia Court of Appeal, Presidents of the Customary Court of Appeal, Chief Judges of state High Courts, Grand Khadis of State Sharia Courts of Appeal, and Presidents of state Customary Courts of Appeal will each receive ₦3,527,022.61.
This salary package encompasses basic pay and customary allowances, including expenses for vehicle fuel and maintenance, personal assistance, hardship, entertainment, utilities, security, clothing, journal subscriptions, medical care, long service, restricted lifestyle, dual responsibility, and legal research assistance.
The legislation also endorses additional regular allowances not included in the monthly total, such as leave allowances estacode at $2000 per night when applicable, duty tour allowances, a severance gratuity of ₦80,775,707.70 upon successful tenure completion, and an optional motor vehicle loan, to be repaid before the end of tenure.
