Thibaut Courtois, the renowned goalkeeper for Real Madrid, encountered another injury obstacle on Tuesday when he injured his right knee during training.
The setback comes as a blow to the Belgian international, who has been recovering since August from a left knee cruciate ligament tear. Courtois was anticipated to make a comeback in the concluding part of the season.
Real Madrid announced, “After today’s medical evaluations, it has been confirmed that Thibaut Courtois has sustained a torn internal meniscus in his right knee.”
This new injury casts doubt on Courtois’ availability for the remainder of Madrid’s season and has already led to his withdrawal from Belgium’s squad for the upcoming European Championships.
In Courtois’ absence, Ukrainian Andriy Lunin has stepped up and gained the confidence of coach Carlo Ancelotti, surpassing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is on loan from Chelsea.
As the La Liga frontrunners, Madrid is set to challenge the reigning Champions League victors, Manchester City, in this season’s quarter-final showdown.
