Twelve additional directors at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are reportedly facing potential dismissal, following the recent termination of seven directors’ appointments last Friday.
According to reports, two of the affected directors have accepted their fate, while the remaining five are considering legal action against the CBN, citing their dismissal as unlawful.
The two directors who have accepted their fate are currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to their alleged involvement in the Jim Obaze Report.
Obaze was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the activities of the CBN during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The termination letters sent to the seven directors mentioned “reorganizational and human capital restructuring” as the basis for their dismissal, aligning with the bank’s new strategic direction.
They were instructed to return all bank properties immediately.A source revealed that the five directors challenging their termination have not been accused of any wrongdoing and are questioning the lack of retirement benefits, especially considering their years of service.
The situation highlights ongoing developments within the CBN, with potential implications for its leadership structure and organizational direction.
