Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Ilorin have announced their full compliance with the 7-day warning strike initiated by their national bodies, commencing today, Monday.
In separate discussions with reporters in Ilorin on Sunday, Comrades Ibrahim Zubar and Falowo Olushola Naheem, Chairmen of NASU and SSANU respectively, reiterated their unions’ commitment to the strike.
Comrade Falowo explained that the warning strike aims to compel the Federal government to address various unresolved issues, including renegotiating the 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreement, reconstituting governing councils, releasing withheld salaries for four months, disbursing earned allowances, and enhancing funding for public universities.
He emphasized that the primary expectation from their members is to abstain from work for the duration of the seven-day strike.
“The main reason for initiating the 7-day warning strike is the non-payment of our four months withheld salaries, while our sister union, ASUU, has received payment for four out of their eight months of withheld salaries,” Falowo added.
