The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, along with 19 Northern States governors and Service Chiefs, convened a lengthy meeting on Thursday at the Office of the NSA (ONSA) to assess the security situation in Northern Nigeria and explore potential lasting solutions.
The closed-door meeting commenced at approximately 1:30 pm and concluded around 6 pm.
According to reports from LEADERSHIP, recent incidents include the abduction of 287 students and teachers from LEA Primary and Junior Secondary School, Kuriga, in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State on March 7, 2024.
Additionally, terrorists abducted 112 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Gamboru Ngala LGA of Borno State, along with 15 Tsangaya students in Sokoto State over the past weekend.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who chairs the Northern Governors Forum, highlighted that the meeting aimed to address and reassess strategies for combating insecurity in the North.
He emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach between governors, Service Chiefs, and the National Security Adviser to tackle security challenges effectively.
Yahaya stressed the necessity of both non-kinetic and kinetic approaches to tackle the underlying causes of insecurity, emphasizing the importance of integrating these approaches for a more comprehensive and successful security framework in the region.
